A 12-member jury is hearing evidence in a murder and firearm case involving multiple charges in the No. 3 Supreme Court.
Jakobe Jaheem Yarde of Nurse Land, Bank Hall, has denied murdering Jerome Stuart, 25, of 8th Avenue, New Orleans, on April 16, 2022. Stuart died after being shot at Baxters Road, near Jordans Supermarket.
Yarde also pleaded not guilty to using a firearm without a valid licence; unlawfully wounding Steve Hackett with intent to do him serious bodily harm or to maim, disfigure or disable him; unlawfully and maliciously wounding Hackett; unlawfully wounding Rasheed Bishop with intent to do him serious bodily harm or to maim, disfigure or disable him; unlawfully and maliciously wounding Bishop; and maliciously engaging in conduct, namely shooting at Michael Preville and Ceejay Ifill, with intent to place them in danger of death or serious bodily harm on the same date.
Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney and Principal State Counsel Joyann Catwell are prosecuting the case, while defence attorneys Sade Harris and Markaila Brathwaite represent Yarde.
On Monday, several witnesses gave evidence, including police photographers, officers from the digital evidence unit and the deceased’s mother.
