Jury finds St John man guilty of 2020 murder

Jaiden Malike Millington has been found guilty by a jury of murdering Tarik Straker almost five years ago.

Millington, of Bath Land, St John, was convicted of the shooting death of Straker, formerly of Long Gap, Spooners Hill, St Michael, at Headley Land, Bank Hall on December 23, 2020.

The 12-member jury in the No. 3 Supreme Court took over two hours to deliberate before reaching the verdict on Wednesday afternoon following a summation by Justice Carlisle Greaves.

Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney and Acting Principal State Counsel Romario Straker prosecuted the case, while defence attorneys Rita Evans and Ensley Grainger represented Millington.

During the three-week long trial, the panel of seven women and five men, along with three alternates, heard from the consultant pathologist that Straker had been shot five times and bled to death.

The court also heard from Selwyn Maynard, who had been formerly accused with Millington of the murder before the State discontinued the charge against him. He testified that Millington and Straker had been from rival gangs.

Justice Greaves ordered pre-sentence and behavioural reports and adjourned the case until December 12.
