Barbadian allrounder Justin Greaves is on the shortlist for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Player-of-the-Month award for July.
The 32-year-old was the Man-of-the-Series in the recent two-match rubber for West Indies against Sri Lanka in Antigua and then against Pakistan in Trinidad.
Greaves has climbed up eight spots to No.9 in the ICC allrounders rankings for Tests cricket – the highest ranked West Indian since Jason Holder was No.1 in 2019 to 2021.
After the Windies won the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Antigua, he made an outstanding 180 to help save the second Test – which resulted in a draw and a series win for the first time over Sri Lanka in two decades.
In the following series against Pakistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, he stepped up once again and took career-best 5-27 and 2-12 to help West Indies earn a comprehensive victory by 90 runs. He made 73 in the next match at Queen’s Park Oval, but Pakistan won to draw the series.
The month ended with Greaves scoring 215 runs at an impressive average of 71.66 in two Test matches and taking eight wickets at a miserly average of 10.25 runs per wicket.
The other two contenders for the award are England captain Harry Brook and Bangladesh batsman Tanzid Hasan. (PS)
