Kickstart Rush defeated Ellerton 2-1 on Tuesday to move into second place in the Barbados Football Association’s Premier League.
In one of the biggest games of the second half of the season, Kickstart took the lead in the 30th minute via a strike from Azarel Croney, before Anson Barrow replied for Ellerton in the 55th minute.
National Under-17 player Jamarco Johnson then scored the winner in the 71st minute to earn three important points for Kickstart, who moved up to second position on 23 points, just one behind leaders Paradise. The defeat leaves Ellerton fifth on 20 points and just slightly off the pace in what has become the most keenly contested Premier League season in recent years.
The night’s other game at the BFA Technical Centre in Wildey, was a battle between newly promoted sides Bagatelle and St Andrew Lions.
In what could turn out to be a critical result given the context of the season for both teams, Bagatelle eased to a comfortable 4-1 victory thanks largely to a hat-trick from Torian Joseph.
He opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before Zeco Graves drew Lions level in the 44th. Tyreese King then restored Bagatelle’s lead two minutes later, before Joseph secured the win for his side with two goals in the 46th and 86th minutes.
As a result, Bagatelle moved further away from the bottom half of the table and into sixth position on 14 points, leapfrogging UWI on 12 points.
Lions by contrast, remain on six points in ninth position, where they occupy one of the two relegation spots, along with cellar dwellers Wotton, who are yet to secure a point. Lions are also five points behind eighth placed Eyre’s Meat Shop Pride of Gall Hill.
During this Sunday’s games, Paradise could extend their lead at the top to four points, when they face Bagatelle in the opening encounter.
Fresh from last night’s defeat, Ellerton face a potentially tricky game against UWI Blackbirds, while in the nightcap game, defending champions Weymouth Wales will face St Andrew Lions, who held them to a 1-1 draw when the two sides met in the first half of the season.
