Soca star Osvaldo Leadpipe Reid has taken the crown in the inaugural Barbados TODAY Hear De Chune competition, commanding a landslide victory with a whopping 84 per cent of the public vote.
His infectious hit Tek Charge left Jordan English’s Darkers trailing with just 14 per cent, making Leadpipe’s win nothing short of a musical sweep.
Receiving his congratulatory token from Barbados TODAY, Leadpipe was in high spirits and full of surprises—especially when he revealed that the song’s catchy intro, “Tinga linga ling” wasn’t supposed to be part of the song at all.
What started as a simple vocal warm-up turned into one of the most memorable soca hooks of the season.
“I was just warming up my voice in the booth,” he laughed. “That ‘tinga linga ling’ part? That was me, first day in the studio, just playing around before the track started. It was never meant to be the intro—but the team loved it, so we kept it.”
Also known for his dynamic performances and hit songs like Ah Feeling with his recording partner Saddis, and Brain Freeze with Jus Jay, Leadpipe isn’t just making noise with quirky intros. His empowering anthem Tek Charge is resonating with fans—especially women.
“Tek Charge is really for the ladies,” the former Road March King shared. “It’s about flipping the script. The fence used to be a barrier in parties—now the women are pushing back and taking charge! Everywhere I go, I see women leading, so this song is for them.”
As Crop Over 2025 continues to build up to its climax, one thing is clear—Leadpipe isn’t just making hits. He’s setting the tone.
