The Barbados Light and Power Company brought festive spirit to Vauxhall Senior Citizens Village in Christ Church on Thursday, delivering gifts and carols as part of its annual Brighten Your Christmas with Good Energy initiative, in a bid to residents that they are not forgotten during the holiday season.
The visit featured a lively carolling session led by Geoffrey Biggie Irie Cordle, supported by pannist Terry Mexican Arthur, much to the delight of the 36 residents who call the long-term facility home. Many of them are low-income seniors who rely heavily on the support offered at the village.
Acting Assistant Director of the National Assistance Board, Teresa Hamilton, thanked the Light and Power team for their thoughtfulness and the gesture’s timing.
“On behalf of our elderly, I want to thank the Barbados Light and Power,” she said. “We know that everything is always done for the children. It’s always the children, it’s always the youth. So when the elderly are remembered, it’s a blessing because they are the persons who would have set the foundation for us. Thank you so much for remembering the elderly and especially the elderly of the Vauxhall Senior Citizens Village.”
She added that simple acts of kindness can have a profound impact on seniors, many of whom look forward to community visits and seasonal outreach.
Managing Director Roger Blackman said the initiative reflects Light and Power’s long-standing commitment to service beyond electricity supply.
“All year round, day in, day out, our teams here and back at the office are working to provide a secure, safe, reliable service to our customers,” he said. “This is an opportunity now to go beyond that and, as we do year after year, support causes and programmes that provide care, kindness and connections at this time of the year. So really, we’re very happy to be here with the folks this afternoon.”
