The Barbados Light and Power Co. Ltd is urging Barbadians to be vigilant after it was brought to their attention that someone was impersonating staff to gain access to people’s homes.
In a statement, BL&P said it was made aware “via social media posts of an incident involving an individual fraudulently impersonating personnel from the Company”.
What was even more alarming, the release added, was the use of personal photographs of residents to support false claims of knowing household members.
The public is asked to take note of the following and report any suspicious activity to police.
(1) All our employees carry proper identification and will be wearing uniforms with the logo of the Company. Authentic company contractors will always present official identification.
(2) Most of the work that Light & Power performs is completed on the outside of residences, which includes the connection of services and the ongoing AMI meter replacement programme in parts of Christ Church and St Philip.
(3) If you have any doubts about the identity of someone claiming to represent Light & Power, do not allow access and contact our Customer Care hotline immediately at 626-4300 for verification. (PR/SAT)
