Lions Club revives one school’s wellness centre, donates learning tools to another

The Bridgetown Lions Club has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local schools with a series of donations and renovations, bringing new life to two educational institutions in St Michael on Friday.

At the Irving Wilson School on Pine Plantation Road, the club oversaw the refurbishment of the wellness centre and sick bay, which had been decommissioned for five to six years. The revitalisation project, costing approximately $6 000, was made possible through the club’s fundraising efforts and a partnership with Affinity Plus Credit Union.

“It is with immense joy that I stand before you today to express our commitment to the grand reopening of the school’s business centre, a symbol of the club’s commitment to finding peace, for healing in a holistic way,” said Lions Club President Louis Linton. “We were quite willing to support such an initiative because it aligns with our goals of ensuring that the centre is a beacon of healing and happiness for all the students.”

Principal Armed Alleyne expressed gratitude, noting, “We were very appreciative when they asked what they could do for us, and we indicated that we needed our sick bay refurbished. Without hesitation, they decided to come on board and refurbish our space. This will provide a safe environment for our students until their parents collect them.”

Valerie Hope, marketing and communications manager of Affinity Plus, added, “We must do our part to ensure that they have every opportunity to succeed and be a viable part of our vibrant Barbadian community. I want to congratulate the Lions Club for creating such a beautiful space for these students.”

At Ann Hill School, the club donated 11 intelligent scanning translator dictionary pens and multiple build-a-ball mazes.

Principal Emelda Belle said, “We are all happy to have you continue to be a part of our family with your generous donations. These tools will help our students build reading skills, independence, and STEM abilities, preparing them for life beyond school.” (SZB)
