Man on cannabis charges remanded due to lack of surety

A Black Rock man accused of importing and trafficking nearly 23 kilogrammes of cannabis has been remanded to prison after failing to secure bail.

Kyle Lamar Romel Chapman, 31, of Spring Garden, appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee and pleaded not guilty to trafficking and importing the controlled substance into the island on February 5.

Prosecutor Sergeant Gazelda Knights stated that the drugs weighed 22.9 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of $366 400.

Chapman, who is represented by attorney Rachelle Ward, was granted bail of $120 000, but there was no surety available to sign for that amount.

He will return to the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
