Man ordered to compensate cyclist

His admission that he damaged another man’s bicycle during an argument over payment for work, resulted in a Brittons Hill resident being ordered to pay $600 compensation by Independence Day.

Magistrate Manila Renee ordered Shane Rene Bartlett, 46, to pay the amount after he pleaded guilty to damaging Samuel Trotman’s bicycle on May 26. Failure to pay will result in one month’s imprisonment.

But the Villa Road, Brittons Hill resident denied using the threatening words ‘I gine kill you’ towards Trotman with the intent of causing him to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him.

Sergeant Kenmore Phillips said the two men became involved in an altercation at Valerie, Brittons Hill, over payment for work completed.

Bartlett left but later returned riding Trotman’s bicycle. He got off and slashed the tyres.

In addition to ordering the compensation, Magistrate Renee placed Bartlett on a three-month bond to keep the peace. If he breaches the bond, he will have to pay $750 within one day or spend one month in prison.
