Mayers picked for WI T20s pending U.S. visa

Kyle Mayers has been picked in the West Indies squad to face Pakistan in three T20 International at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, south Florida.

At the moment he does not have a visa to travel. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has been working to secure the required documentation for the hard-hitting allrounder to reach in time, hopefully, to play the back-to-back matches on Saturday night and Sunday night. The series is set to bowl off on Thursday at 8pm.

NATION online understands that Mayers was notified of his selection to the squad earlier this week while playing at a tournament in Guyana.

West Indies have been forced to make several changes due to workload management and injuries.

As reported yesterday gast bowler Shamar Joseph has been called up as a replacement for another speedster Alzarri Joseph as the Windies manage workloads.

In the batting department Johnson Charles and Alick Athanaze have been called up to replace Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer, who both picked up injuries on Monday night in the fifth and final T20I against Australia at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Charles and Athanaze are due to arrive in the United States today. Rovman Powell is also carrying a wrist injury and is unlikely to be available for selection on Thursday night.

West Indies will look to rebound from the drubbing they received at the hands of the ruthless Australians on home soil. It was just the second time in history a team won a T20I series 5-0 and came after the Aussies had a 3-0 clean sweep in the Test matches – which included the West Indies being humiliated when they were bowled out for 27 in the final match at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

FULL SQUAD: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, Alick Athanaze, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd.
