With three race wins in the Easykart 60cc Cadet class in Sunday’s third round of the 2026 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship, 11-year-old Ava Mayers wrote her name into the BKA’s Roll of Honour.
She was the top 60cc and overall raceday points-scorer, the first female karter to achieve this in the club’s 40-year history. While successful female racers have topped their class on raceday – Kayleigh Catwell did twice when she finished second to Calem Maloney in 100cc in 2018 – none finished as the day’s overall top-scorer.
Fastest of the six cadets in qualifying, Mayers led from early in the first race, winning by just over two seconds from championship leader Edward Norris, who had worked his way up from the back of the grid after his kart broke down on the first lap of qualifying, with Finn Cox third.
Mayers was also quick to snatch the advantage in the reverse grid second race, with Norris and Cox following her home once again.
Norris reasserted himself in the third race, Mayers fighting through from the back after first-lap contact withCox, which incurred him a penalty that dropped him from second to fourth behind Mayers and Shamer Eversley.
A third victory in the day’s last race sealed an impressive day for Mayers, with Cox and Norris completing the podium.
Despite a less than perfect day, Norris still leads the class and overall standings.
There was plenty of action in the Easykart 125cc too, where Ava’s brother Jacob topped the qualifying times and clocked the first of three fastest laps on his way to a flag-to-flag win in race one. Aaron Blackett was second throughout, while Aeden Bruce won a feisty battle for third with Cody Mark.

Blackett led all the way in the reverse grid second race, while Jacob recovered from a first-lap spin to finish third, which became second when
Bruce copped a 10 seconds penalty for starting outside the tramlines.
The day went downhill for Jacob at the start of race three when his starter failed. Blackett emerged as the winner by just nine-tenths of a second from Bruce, who battled hard in the final stages with Mark.
Normal service was resumed for Jacob with victory in the day’s final race, while Bruce snatched second place from Blackett on the last lap. Blackett, however, edged ahead of Mayers in the class standings by three points.
Fastest in qualifying, Jaydn Brathwaite consolidated his advantage in the Easykart100cc class with the first full house of race wins for the season, clocking all four fastest laps as well.
Jordyn Hinkson and Jaylan Priddee finished second and third in each race.
