Met Office monitoring tropical wave

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is monitoring a tropical wave just off the African coast that could develop into a tropical depression over the next few days.

In a weather information statement issued at 5:31 p.m. on Tuesday, the BMS said environmental conditions were conducive to development, although conditions are expected to become less favourable by the weekend.

Current guidance has not reached agreement on the strength of the system as it approaches the region. However, the BMS said that regardless of its eventual strength, the system is expected to pass well north of Barbados over the weekend, with no direct impacts expected.

The weekend is forecast to be relatively warm, with localised showers possible, particularly during the afternoon. There are currently no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados. The next update is expected at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
