A mother told the High Court that after receiving a call, she went to the Accident and Emergency Department and saw her son lying on a hospital bed with injuries to his head and hand.
Shelly Jones was giving evidence in the trial of Shomari Jaquan Brendan Bourne, of King’s Court, Lodge Road, Christ Church, who is accused of causing serious bodily harm to Lezron Robinson with intent to do him serious bodily harm or to maim, disfigure or disable him on December 27, 2016.
He has also pleaded not guilty to the lesser charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting serious bodily harm on Robinson.
Jones said that on Boxing Day, her son Lezron left home to go to the Garrison. After she received a call around 1 a.m. the following morning, she took a taxi and went to the Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She recalled: “I saw my son on the hospital bed in the corridor with injuries to his face and hand. His face was swollen, his right eye was swollen and he had a gash on his left hand by his wrist area that was bleeding. He had scratches on his face.”
The witness told the jury of four men and five women in the No. 3A Supreme Court that during the time they were at the hospital, Robinson was taken for CT scans and X-rays, after which they received a medical report form from a police officer to be filled out, which was done.
Jones said that they left the hospital the same day and took the forms to the District ‘A’ Police Station, where her son gave a statement to officers.
Principal State Counsel Joyann Catwell is prosecuting along with State Counsel Treann Knight, while defence lawyer Harry Husbands represents Bourne.
Justice Anthony Blackman presides.
