A witness told a 12-member jury that he saw murder accused Shenika St Pierre holding a pair of scissors as the victim, Herbert Callender, clutched his chest, bleeding.
St Pierre, of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael, is on trial for the murder of Callender, 56, formerly of
St Barnabas Heights, St Michael, on March 28, 2022.
Taking the witness stand as the trial continued in the No. 5 Supreme Court, Kyle Bascombe-Browne said that he had been in Garden Land with his friend Rochell to visit his father when St Pierre hollered for him.
She plaited his hair, he said, and they all were “breezing and smoking” with two other males as he waited on Callender to come and take him home.
The witness recounted that Callender arrived at the house around sunset, then he and St Pierre started to have a discussion and walked off towards the house and eventually went inside.
“Then I hear a big noise, and then everything went quiet,” he said, adding that he went inside by the doorway to see if Callender was ready to take him home and hollered but did not get an answer and went back outside.
“I turn ‘round and saw Herbert holding his chest by the door. They were facing one other. I see blood coming through his fingers,” he said, adding that a scissors was in St Pierre’s hand.
The witness said that he heard Callender scream “Aie” before he turned around and he saw the deceased “just drop down on the ground”.
Bascombe-Browne said that St Pierre asked him to help her and to take him to the hospital, and gave him keys to Callender’s vehicle. He said two men helped place Callender in the vehicle, and he drove to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney and Senior State Counsel Kevin Forde are prosecuting the trial while defence attorney Sian Lange represents St Pierre.
Justice Pamela Beckles presides, while a jury of nine women and three men hears the evidence.
