Barbadians are encouraged to swap their formal shoes for their favourite sneakers on Friday, September 25, for National Sneaker Day 2026.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is bringing back the event, which is part of National Wellness Month, to get everyone involved in movement at work or school.
This year’s slogan, Lace Up. Get Moving, urges persons to find creative ways to get active by taking the stairs, stretching at their desks, going for brisk walks, jogging on the spot, or even dancing.
The highlight of the day is the National Sneaker Day Challenge where participants can win prizes by posting their activities on social media. Here is how persons can join the challenge:
- Wear sneakers with work or school attire.
- Get moving throughout the day.
- Take a photo or video of the activity.
- Post it on Instagram between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on September 25.
- Use #BBSneakerDay2026.
- Tag @ncdcommissionbarbados and follow @mohbarbados for a chance to win prizes.
Prizes include day passes and buffet breakfast for two, two-day gym passes, a guided tour experience or tickets at Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, including the Nature Trail Tour and Mangrove Princess Boat Ride, tickets to the Atlantis Submarine, and a rollerskating demonstration.
Winners will be announced on Friday, October 9, on the Instagram pages @ncdcommissionbarbados and @mohbarbados. (MR/BGIS)
