NGO calls for stronger community action after Chapman Lane shooting

Members of the Executive Coalition NGO are calling for stronger community initiatives following the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Kadeem Jelani Maycock of 3rd Avenue, Chapman Lane, St Michael on Wednesday.
Chief Executive Officer of the group, Henderson Williams, said he and other members were walking through the area to speak with residents about the upcoming St Michael We Gatherin’ activities, set to begin in November, when gunfire erupted.
Maycock was killed just a short distance from his home. Neighbours said he had lived there with his grandmother, who passed away about two months ago.
Williams said the tragedy underscored the urgent need for renewed social engagement and youth intervention to tackle rising violence in some communities.
He added that the Coalition remained committed to working alongside government and residents to rebuild trust and strengthen neighbourhood bonds.
