An 18-year-old St Michael labourer was remanded to prison on Friday after no suitable surety was present to sign bail.
Devon Romario Lavine, of 3rd Avenue, Greaves Land, Black Rock, is accused of using threatening words to Frank James on September 13. He allegedly said, “Come let we go through the next gap, I will kill you,” in a manner likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Lavine pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Irene Stephney, telling the court: “That same day he duh drunk.”
The prosecutor said multiple attempts to reach someone to act as surety for Lavine were unsuccessful. He added that Lavine was already on a bond from another court, making him unsuitable for personal bail.
Lavine, in his defence, said: “Everybody saw the video. I didn’t threaten him, Ma’am. I didn’t touch him or nothing.”
“You are currently on a bond and no suitable surety,” the magistrate said, to which Lavine replied: “If I get bail, I will come back.”
His bail application was denied, and he was remanded until September 25.
