Barbadian nurses have been hailed for their resilience and unwavering service amid mounting workplace pressures, as the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) marked International Nurses Week by calling for greater recognition of their critical role in healthcare.
In a statement, DLP shadow health minister Felicia Dujon praised nurses here and across the diaspora for what she described as their unwavering commitment to patient care even under emotional and physical strain.
“Nurses continue to serve with dedication, compassion and professionalism despite increasing pressures and difficult working conditions,” Dujon said.
“Their contribution to healthcare and national development cannot be overstated.”
Dujon described nurses as one of the most important pillars of the healthcare system, noting that they remain the frontline caregivers most closely connected to patients and families.
“Our nurses represent the very best of Barbados. Even in moments of pressure, exhaustion and emotional strain, they continue to show extraordinary compassion, courage and humanity,” she said.
The DLP also used the opportunity to commend the Barbados Nurses Association and its president, Dr Fay Parris, for advocating on behalf of nurses and championing issues affecting the profession.
Dujon noted that while International Nurses Week officially concluded Tuesday with Nurses Day celebrations, the Barbados Nurses Association’s activities are set to culminate Saturday with an awards ceremony.
She further encouraged more young people to consider entering the profession, describing nursing as “a noble and impactful calling”.
