The Barbados National Energy Company Ltd. (BNECL) has confirmed that the oil spill in Oistins, Christ Church, has been successfully contained.
In a statement, it said that earlier today, the team at its Fairy Valley location was alerted to an oil spill in the area.
“BNECL personnel responded promptly, and all relevant emergency and environmental personnel are on site. The spill has been successfully contained, and cleanup operations are currently underway,” it said.
To facilitate these efforts, the road from the Y-junction by the Oistins Police Station to the bottom of Oistins Hill is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians and commuters are also asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.
BNECL has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for its patience and cooperation.
It said an update will be provided once the road has been safely reopened.
