The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has confirmed that a female patient attacked staff members with a concealed sharp object during an early morning incident on Wednesday.
While the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, the hospital reported that those affected were understandably shaken. Immediate medical treatment and psychological support were offered to all affected personnel.
In a statement, QEH said the matter is being reviewed by hospital management in collaboration with The Barbados Police Service, with full cooperation to ensure all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined.
“We take this matter extremely seriously. The safety and well-being of our staff, patients, and visitors is always our top priority,” said QEH Chief Executive Officer Neil Clark.
The hospital added that it would use the incident as an opportunity to reassess and strengthen its existing safety protocols.
