Defending champions Pinelands was among four teams that booked their spots in the semifinals of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) President’s Cup on Sunday.
Pinelands, along with C.A.M Smart Assurance City United Celtics, Fusionz Boutique Station Hill Cavaliers and Burger King Clapham Bulls all advanced to the last four with comfortable victories at the Barbados Community College (BCC).
The men from the Pine ensured that the dreadful season for A&C Security Services Spartans continued by thumping them 94-79.
For Pinelands, Rasheed Maynard had a game high 27 points, Kiserian Adams had 24, Deroni Hurley 15 and Rachad Hall 12.
Kadian Brathwaite top scored for the Spartans with 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while veteran Dale Franklyn had his best game of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Sean Harding contributed 14 points.
Celtics were hardly troubled on their way to defeating Lakers 76-66, who were without their star player Jehu Lafeuille for the second straight game.
The score did not give the full picture of the game, with the Celtics taking their foot off the gas late in the game.
Theo Greenidge led the way for Celtics with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Hunte had his best figures of the season with 20 point, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, seven steals and five blocks. Jared Alleyne also played well for 14 points.
Celtics began the game in scorching fashion, knocking down seven three pointers to take an early lead.
At halftime, they led 48-32 and after three quarters 67-48.
Primus Walrond was outstanding for the Lakers, ending with 33 points and 25 rebounds, as he dominated the glass and the paint. Ricardo Jemmott was the only other Laker to break double figures with 10, after arriving close to halftime.
The Cavaliers moved into the next round after routing Warrens All Stars 96-64.
At halftime the score was 40-32 with Warrens hanging close, but by the end of the third, the lead had ballooned to 21, (71-50) and the Cavs never looked back.
The combined effort saw veteran sharp shooter Jason Smith finish with 19 points, scoring five treys in the game, Saeed Norville had 16 points and Darren Hunte had 13 points. Omar Bowen, Adriel ‘AB’ Brathwaite and Dijon Hunte each scored 10 points.
It was an impressive showing by the Cavs, who played without one of their best players, Deveron Knight.
Warrens had three players in double figures with Kaliel Austin topping the side with 13 points, Greig Springer scored 10 points and Tyrell had 10 points.
The NSC Combined Schools Tridents played well but fell to Bulls 93-81.
The Bulls cruised to the win and were led by big man Kemar Benn with 24 points. Veteran Akeem Marsh added 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Simeon Maynard contributed 19 points and Rahiim Gibbons finished with 13 points.
Tridents’ Antoine Winter continued his good season with 24 points while grabbing 12 rebounds, Tristan Yarde had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Nyiib Browne scored 18 points. (AS)
