Police refute social media claims of arrest in elderly robbery case

Police are refuting a social media post that a man was held in connection with the beating of an elderly man along Belmont Road, St Michael, yesterday.

Communications Officer Inspector Ryan Brathwaite told Nation News they were still looking for the suspect.

A picture of a man in handcuffs began making the round on Friday indicting he was held in connection with the incident.

The elderly man, identified as Jeffrey Barrow, was discharged after being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money and left bleeding on the sidewalk.

Yesterday, a resident of Belmont Road said crime in the area had become increasingly concerning.

“It’s normal for we. There’s always a robbery out here, almost every day. Out here is a urban area so I guess it’s expected, but it getting out of hand. I don’t even know how you could rob an old man,” one said.
