Residents and businesses in Prior Park, St. James will be driving on a better road in time for Christmas, as C.O. Williams Construction Ltd. in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) start preparations for paving.
The contractor has begun deep milling a section of Prior Park Road, St. James, from the south of the existing roundabout and will continue in a southerly direction for approximately 400 metres, in preparation for the paving work.
Work commenced on Monday December 9, and will continue until Thursday December 19.
As a result, the road will be closed Monday to Friday, from 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., to through traffic, with local access only for residents, businesses, Sanitation Service Authority vehicles and emergency vehicles.
Motorists are asked to plan their routes accordingly and avoid the road where possible. Road users are also encouraged to obey the signage posted and follow the directions of the flag personnel.
Under the reconstruction project, the road’s sub-base will be strengthened; footpaths in asphalt or concrete will be added; realignment will be done to straighten the road where possible, and stormwater wells, catch pits and other drainage infrastructure will be built. The roundabout’s surface will be changed from asphalt to roller compacted concrete, and approximately four utility poles will be relocated.
The roadwork is being done under MTW’s CAF Programme which is funded by the Development Bank for the Caribbean and Latin America. The project is expected to be completed early next year, pending weather or unforeseen circumstances.
