PSS overcomes CP in U19 clash

Providence Secondary School (PSS) used a 16-0 fourth-quarter run to claim victory over Coleridge & Parry Secondary School (CP) in the 2025 Co-operators General Insurance Ltd National Sports Council (NSC) Under-19 Basketball competition on Monday.

In a game that was tightly contested for the first thirty minutes, PSS used their home-court advantage during the final period with intense full-court pressure that led to several turnovers for the CP squad. The main beneficiaries of the swarming defence were guards Niran De Silva and Ari Chalbaud, who made the visitors pay for careless mistakes by converting easy layups.

De Silva scored a game-high 15 points while Chalbaud had 14, with each scoring nine during the second half of the contest. Eli Fraser chipped in with 12 as Providence won 52–35.

Earlier in the matchup, PSS held slim leads of 15–10 after the first quarter and 23–19 at half. CP won the third quarter 16–13 to cut the lead to one point at 36–35, with the main contribution coming from point guard Romani Adams, who had 11 points.

Title favourites Queen’s College (QC) made light work of Harrison College B (HCB) when they defeated them 57–22 at the Crumpton Street hard courts.

Power forward Rhys Cozier top-scored for QC with 17 points, while Zane Gaskin added 11. Trae Skeffers reached double figures for HCB with 10 points.

In the third matchup of the day, The St Michael School (SMS) continued their winning ways when they handed Combermere A (CombA) a 64–33 defeat on their home turf at Waterford.

Jordan Blackman was the high scorer for SMS with 23 points, while Ari Mottley-Squires got 12. Nathaniel Salmon had a team-high 17 points for the Combermere boys. (ZM)
