QEH hit by patient surge, delays expected

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is close to full capacity as it grapples with a surge in patients.

A statement from the QEH said the Accident and Emergency Department (AED), in particular, was being impacted and this was affecting waiting times and the number of new patients who could be seen.

Those with life-threatening conditions will be treated immediately as per the AED’s triage system. However, patients with less urgent concerns may experience extended waiting times and are advised to visit the 24-Hour Clinic at Winston Scott Polyclinic at Jemmotts Lane, St Michael, or a private physician, if available.

Earlier this week, the QEH noted there was an increase in the number of people coming to AED due to a surge in respiratory illnesses as well as those with chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, on the heels of a mass casualty incident. (PR/SAT)
