Updated psychological and psychiatric reports for a woman convicted of murder have been requested ahead of her sentencing.
Shonette Vanessa Williams, of Lower Bridge Gap, Cave Hill, St Michael, had been jointly charged with her son, Calvin Osbourne, for the murder of Gregory Adams at their home on October 18, 2020.
Williams was convicted of murdering her boyfriend, while Osbourne was found guilty of manslaughter.
When the case was called in the No. 4 Supreme Court on Wednesday, Williams’ defence attorney, Peta-Gay Lee-Brace, told the court that although there were updated reports from the psychiatrist and counsellor her client had been seeing at Dodds Prison, these remained “outstanding” as they could not be released without an official court request.
“We were hoping that we would have had those reports today. It turns out that the prison has indicated that it would not actually do anything without the order made in court for the reception of those reports to be reflected on the warrant that went up. So, without documentation from the court to say ‘yes, let those reports be prepared and submitted’, my understanding from the prison is that they will do nothing until they get something from the court, your Honour.”
Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell said: “We will send correspondence to the prison requesting a psychological and psychiatric report for Ms Williams,” before adjourning the case until May 6.
Defence lawyer Sian Lange represents Osbourne, while acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale SC and State Counsel Paul Prescod prosecuted the case.
