Roach among players in Antigua Test camp ahead of Sri Lanka series

West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach is among a list of players presently in Antigua at a camp preparing for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.

The 37-year-old arrived on the island on Thursday alongside other players selected by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the group started training on Friday morning at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

CWI has not yet officially announced the players for this pre-Test camp, nor have they announced the squad for the four-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka. This match is slated for June 18 to 21.

Roach was ignored by the West Indies selectors for the home season last year when they lost the series against Australia as well as the tour of India. He was recalled for the tour of New Zealand at the end of the year where he had an immediate effect with a five-wicket haul and a career-best score of 58 not out which helped to secure an epic draw.

Roach is among the most successful West Indies bowlers of all time with 294 wickets at an average of 27 apiece in 88 matches.

NATIONNEWS also understands that other players from Barbados including Test vice captain Jomel Warrican and middle order batsman Kevin Wickham also traveled to Antigua for the camp and the warm-up match.

The West Indies and Sri Lanka will face each other in two Tests at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The first match is June 25 to 29 and the second bowls off July 3 to 7. (PS)
