Road deaths climb to five; three recorded in St Philip so far this year

Barbados has now recorded five road fatalities so far this year, with three of the deadly crashes occurring in St Philip, police statistics show.

The latest incidents were reported on Sunday afternoon, when police confirmed two separate fatal collisions — one in Christ Church and another in St Philip.

In Christ Church, a motorcyclist died following a collision with a motorvan along Searles Road at its junction with Leadvale around 3:18 p.m. Police said the motorcyclist was travelling towards Lowlands while the motorvan was heading in the opposite direction when the collision occurred. The rider was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.Shortly after, another fatal collision occurred along Crane Road, St Philip, involving a motorvan and a bicyclist around 3:45 p.m. Police said both were travelling towards Rices when the collision occurred. The cyclist died at the scene.

These deaths add to earlier fatalities recorded in St Philip this month, including a two-vehicle collision along Carrington Road which claimed the lives of two occupants.

Another fatality was also recorded earlier this month in St Michael, when a man died after being run over by a truck along President Kennedy Drive near Kensington Oval.

Police investigations are ongoing into all incidents, and members of the public are being urged to exercise caution on the nation’s roads.
