Sagicor is proudly celebrating the first anniversary of its flagship community health screening initiative, Sagicor Cares.
Launched in October 2024, the Sagicor Cares programme, in partnership with their Wellness Nursing Team, the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Field Medical Unit and Cancer Support Services (CSS), brought free basic health checks, wellness education, and cancer awareness to communities from St Lucy to Christ Church. With visits to eleven of Barbados’ twelve parishes completed, the programme will conclude its first full national circuit in January 2026 when it visits St John.
To date, 1,310 people have benefited from screenings for hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and cancer risk factors, as well as guidance on healthier living and lifestyle management.
The initiative has become a model for what effective corporate community partnerships can achieve, taking healthcare directly to the people and removing barriers to preventative care.
Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados) Paul Inniss said the milestone is a powerful reflection of Sagicor’s purpose in action. “Reaching the one-year mark of Sagicor Cares is more than an anniversary; it’s proof that when compassion and collaboration come together, real change happens. We set out to make health services more accessible to every Barbadian, and today we can proudly say we’ve reached nearly every parish. What’s even more meaningful is that, through these screenings, some people learned for the first time that they were diabetic or hypertensive. That knowledge can be life-changing. It reinforces why preventative care matters and why programmes like Sagicor Cares must continue. This is community care in its truest form, meeting people where they are, offering hope, and helping them live longer, healthier lives,” he said.
Inniss also commended the BDF Field Medical Team and Cancer Support Services for their partnership, noting that their combined expertise and commitment have been critical to the initiative’s success. “This collaboration has shown what’s possible when organisations unite around a common goal. As we prepare to bring Sagicor Cares to St John in January, we remain focused on deepening our outreach and continuing to support Barbadians in making proactive, informed health choices.”
As Sagicor Cares looks ahead to 2026, the company reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the programme’s reach and introducing new health and wellness touchpoints across the island, ensuring that even more Barbadians can access essential screening and education opportunities close to home.
