On World Cleanup Day, Sandals Barbados teamed up once again with InterCaribbean Airways and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) for the second annual Coastal Cleanup.
What began as an early morning gathering on the beach on Saturday quickly grew into a lively show of teamwork, pride and responsibility, as volunteers of all ages moved across the sand with gloves and bags in hand, collecting debris that too often finds its way onto the shore. The sight of colleagues, friends and families working side by side was a clear reminder that when a community comes together with purpose, the results speak for themselves.
For Sandals Barbados General Manager Bruno Couesnon, the day was more than just another cleanup. He shared how proud he was to see his team step out and highlighted the continuous need to work for “the community and environment in an effort to keep Barbados clean while maintaining the standards in the tourism industry.”
Couesnon also reminded everyone that clean beaches are not just a benefit for visitors but for every Bajan who enjoys them daily. He thanked his team, noting that their efforts reflect the resort’s ongoing commitment to community and environment.

Country Manager of interCaribbean Airways, Peter Parris, brought his team’s energy to the sand as well. For him, supporting the cleanup was about showing that businesses can play an active role in caring for the places they call home.
“Our goal is to always get into the community and do the necessary work, such as supporting initiatives like the Coastal Clean Up that strengthen communities and protect natural spaces.”
His colleagues worked with enthusiasm, turning what could have felt like a task into a spirited group effort that combined laughter with a strong sense of purpose.
Adding to the spirit of unity, Public Relations Manager for Sandals Barbados, David Hinds, emphasised how meaningful it was to see three organisations working side by side.
Hinds also spoke on how this year’s event was a lot more manageable, which seems to indicate that the message of keeping beaches clean is resonating with Barbadians.

He thanked the volunteers who came out, pointing out that every hand made a difference and that the event showed what can be achieved when everyone rallies together.
The BTMI’s participation further strengthened the link between environmental care and the island’s tourism product while stressing that Barbados’ reputation as one of the world’s top destinations depends on keeping its natural assets in top condition. Clean beaches are central to the island’s image, and BTMI’s involvement underscored how sustainability and industry success go hand in hand.
