St Michael School produced a commanding all-round performance to emerge as the top school in the Southern Zone Cross Country Championships held on Tuesday, at the Princess Margaret Secondary School in Six Roads, St Philip.
The Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championship (BSSAC) powerhouses showed great consistency across all divisions, claiming victories in multiple age categories to stamp their dominance on the grass track.
In the senior boys’ category, Combermere School took top honours with 57 points, finishing ahead of St Michael School (85 points) and The Lodge School and Christ Church Foundation School, who tied for third on 93 points.
Parkinson Memorial, Princess Margaret, and Deighton Griffith rounded out the top seven.
St Michael School, however, reigned supreme in the senior girls’ division, capturing first place ahead of Combermere School and Christ Church Foundation School. Springer Memorial placed fourth, followed by The Lodge School, Princess Margaret, and Parkinson Memorial respectively.
The momentum continued for St Michael in the Under-15 boys’ event led by the talented Brent Lashley. The lads from Martindale’s Road again claimed victory, ahead of Combermere School and Princess Margaret Secondary. The Lodge, Deighton Griffith, and Parkinson Memorial followed, while Graydon Sealy and St Winifred competed with smaller squads.
In the Under-15 girls’ category, St Michael School were once again dominant and proved unbeatable, taking first place. Springer Memorial secured second, followed by Princess Margaret and Combermere. Parkinson Memorial, Deighton Griffith, and St Winifred School also featured in this division.
St Michael School’s younger athletes kept their school’s flag flying high by winning both the First Form Boys’ and First Form Girls’ divisions.
Combermere finished second in both categories, while Christ Church Foundation and Springer Memorial took third in the boys’ and girls’ events respectively.
