Solutions Barbados will enter the upcoming general election with only one candidate on the ballot — a marked shift from its multi-candidate slates in 2018 and 2022.
The party’s lone candidate is Robert Toussaint who is standing for Parliament in Christ Church South.
His campaign is centred on change and community engagement. According to his manifesto, he is committed to listening to the concerns of his constituents and working collaboratively to address the issues affecting their daily lives.
Among his key pledges is a focus on housing. Toussaint has promised to support the construction of new homes and to strengthen existing structures that suffer from weaknesses, particularly those vulnerable to damage during the hurricane season.
Education and workforce readiness also form a key part of his platform. He vowed to ensure that students leave the school system equipped with at least one marketable skill, better preparing them for employment and economic independence.
The candidate’s nomination team includes manager and party founder Grenville Phillips II, with Fallon Best serving as proposer and Ronald Blackmoore as witness.
Phillips, a structural engineer, founded Solutions Barbados in 2015, positioning itself as a Christian-influenced, reformist movement focused on lower taxes, efficient and depoliticised public administration and strong anti-corruption measures.
It fielded 28 candidates in the 2018 general election, gaining about 2.7 per cent of the vote but no seats, and later took part in a coalition-style effort among small parties ahead of the 2022 poll but remained outside Parliament. (SL)
