President of the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, Dr Alfred Sparman, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team at last weekend’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships in Guatemala.
His assessment after the nine-member team returned to the island on Monday with a 12-medal haul from the championships — eight gold, two silver and two bronze
Dr Sparman said the team competed exceptionally well against some of the region’s best, despite fielding a relatively small contingent.
“We had outstanding results,” Dr Sparman said adding, “Our gold medal winners included Chad Peterkin in the Junior Men’s Physique, Julian Belgrave in Masters Men’s Physique, Trudi-Anne Bovell in Masters Bikini Fitness, Jacoba Vlugman in Bikini Fitness over 166 centimeters, Shakira Weithers in Masters Wellness and Tracy Sealy in Women’s Physique.”

He continued, “Renaldo Bourne won the Men’s Classic physique Tall Class, while among the bodybuilders, Sanaj Lewis won the Up-to-75-kilogramme category.

“Bourne not only won his class but placed third overall and earned his IFBB pro card. This is a tremendous achievement,” said Dr Sparman, who also congratulated the other medal winners.
“As president of the federation, I want to congratulate every member of Team Barbados. You represented our country with pride, discipline, and determination. This proves that even a small Barbados team can stand tall on the international stage. You have made us proud,” he said.
Bodybuilding takes centre stage this weekend when the ABC Inter Gym Bodybuilding and Fitness Competition is held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on September 5.
