St John woman with 47 theft charges granted bail

A St John woman has been slapped with 47 counts of theft in connection with alleged financial crimes at Lashley & Waithe Fish Processors.

Police arrested and charged 43-year-old Natasha Nicole Layne of Martins Bay, St John. She is accused of stealing money from the company on December 28, 2023, and of committing 35 further acts of theft between January 16 and December 27, 2024.

In addition, prosecutors allege that she stole money on 12 occasions between January 7 and March 3, 2025.

Layne appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court today where she pleaded not guilty to all charges.

She was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 with one surety and is scheduled to return to court on Monday, November 24.
