St Lucy residents advised to boil water

The Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) are advising residents of St. Lucy to boil water from their taps until further testing is completed.

Routine post-flood testing in various parts of the parish has revealed an increased presence of brown water. This discolouration has led to the implementation of precautionary measures.

The BWA has been engaged in a vigorous programme of mains replacement in the parish and is fully aware of the potential for floodwater infiltration into the distribution system. As a result, the BWA has enhanced chlorination.

Due to the increased use of chlorine, residents may notice a slight bleach-like taste in the water even after boiling, but there is no cause for alarm.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness and the BWA will continue to monitor the situation and keep residents informed.
