Police witnesses have begun testifying in the trial of a St Peter man accused of illegally having two firearms and more than 20 rounds of ammunition three years ago.
Tyrek Rivaldo King, of Gays, St Peter, has pleaded not guilty in the No. 4A Supreme Court to having a 19 Gen4 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a P-11 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and 22 rounds of ammunition without valid licences on June 8, 2022.
The prosecution, led by Principal State Counsel Olivia Davis and State Counsel Tito Holder, contends that police, acting on information, executed a search warrant at a residence and found King in an upstairs bedroom holding two guns. He allegedly threw them out the window, and they landed on the roof of a shop attached to the property.
A nine-member jury has so far heard testimony from the police photographer, a firearms examiner, and investigating officer Sergeant Markinson Chandler, who told the court that King gave a “no comment” electronic interview after he was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.
Justice Donna Babb-Agard is presiding. King is represented by attorneys Dr Lenda Blackman, Simon Clarke, and Ken Mason.
