‘Steady heartbeat’ of Mirchandani family

Businessman Ram Mirchandani’s dying wish was for his wife Asha “Mrs Ram” Mirchandani to avenge what he considered a wrong done to the couple when their Bay Street, Bridgetown property was compulsorily acquired by Government.

In paying tribute to her late husband – who died on April 20 at the age of 84 – at his funeral service recently, the grieving widow told the large assembly of mourners in the chapel at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens: “My dear husband had tremendous foresight and he worked with all the administrations, including prime ministers, civil servants and made an important contribution to the development of this country
. . . . Even when he was passing away, he told me in the hospital, ‘Don’t give up the fight. Fight it right through. We have been unfaired’.

“I told him forget about it, the Lord is with us, fairness will come to us at some stage or the other,” she added.

“Mrs Ram” said she chose to focus on the man to whom she was married for 61 years and with whom she experienced peaks and valleys in the businesses they operated together and the legacy of his life. He was chairman of the Ram Group of Companies.
