Good music and a high-quality production synonymous with Summa Fest are what patrons can expect when the fourth edition is held later this month.
Hosted by Dream Team Entertainment Inc., the show, slated for the Richard Stoute Amphitheatre at the National Botanical Gardens, will be the first to be held there by a private promoter since it was used for the Pic O’ De Crop Finals on August 1. It was subsequently used for the CARIFESTA super concerts and closing ceremony.
At a briefing for the September 27 event, Dream Team Entertainment communications director, Wendy Burke, said despite having to change the date owing to the staging of CARIFESTA last month, it will be a great show.
“We will still be offering the high standards which we are known for in the entertainment industry. Excellent artistes, many performing for the first time on a Bajan stage, the release of new tracks by local artistes, impeccable stage production in terms of lighting, stage design, sound and a live band. Add to this mega stars from beyond the region and you have all the elements which make up Summa Fest.
“This year, we are bringing fresh faces with tunes that are already seeing good rotation; we have to thank our CEO Kwanza Canterbury for this because he always the picks the right ones.”
Although the headliner has not been announced, Burke said the concert features a line-up of entertainers such as TOK, Chronic Law, “a new generation deejay/singjay poised to be the best that east, west north and south has seen” who has more than 20 releases, Jahmiel, an “exciting new voice” whose “strong conscious” reggae lyrics deliver thoughtful messages and Govana, a protégé of Aidonia who is featured on the collaboration Breeze. And in keeping with their intention to celebrate local, Brutal Crankstar is among the performers.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, congratulated the team and wished them a successful event.
“I’m very happy to be able to be here to support you and to support the team and to commend all of you for this tremendous effort, I know that it is a risk. We don’t see it. Those of us who participate and come at the end and show up often don’t appreciate the hard work, the effort, and the risk it takes in order to be part of these sorts of initiatives to be able to lift them up,” she said.
