arbados has secured its first medal at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the Dominican Republic, with Stephen Slocombe and Kaipo Marshall earning a podium finish in the men’s doubles competition.
The duo battled through difficult conditions to claim a silver medal after falling in straight sets to El Salvador’s Cesar Cruz and Diego Duran, 6-1, 6-4.
Despite the defeat, Slocombe and Marshall earned praise for their resilience and determination on the court.
Chef de Mission Dr Adrian Lorde, speaking to Barbados TODAY from the Games Village, highlighted the pair’s effort, noting that they performed strongly despite extremely challenging conditions.
Meanwhile, Barbados is guaranteed another medal on Wednesday after surfer Chelsea Tuach stormed into the Women’s Short Board final.

Tuach advanced to the championship showdown after defeating Venezuela’s Rosanny Alvarez with a score of 6.87 and will now face Costa Rica’s Rachel Aguero as she bids to add another medal to Barbados’ growing CAC Games tally.
“We are upbeat after our first medal and we are now on the medal board and we’re quite happy that those guys gave it their all. The heat was terrible but both sides had the heat to deal with.
“Chelsea (Tuach) had a little bit of a medical problem this morning, but she overcame that to get into the finals, and it shows her resilience and willingness to, to not to give up,” he said.
In hockey action, the Barbados women’s team was beaten 7-1 by Cuba in Group B.
Chioke Holder exited the men’s 87k Taekwondo competition at the quarterfinal stage after being defeated 2-0.
Heidi Stoute finished fourth in heat number four of the Women’s 50m freestyle in a time of 26.60 seconds, while Amani Millar was second in heat two of the men’s equivalent in 24.28 seconds.
Golfer Xzavier Wiggins finished 13th out of 14 competitors, following the final round of the men’s individual competition.
Dr Lorde has indicated that the Barbados flag will be flown at half mast, while there will be a brief ceremony in the Games Village on Wednesday morning, in memory of Sir Garfield Sobers.
There will also be a minute’s silence before the start of the Women’s Hockey game between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
