The Heritage Band brings nostalgia to the stage

At a time when Barbados is intensifying efforts to place its heritage, history and ancestral consciousness high and firm on the social agenda, a patriotic group of musicians has decided to play its part – at least by its offerings of the “good old days” experience.

Aptly known as The Heritage Band, this collection of six seasoned musicians has carved out a niche in the cultural landscape to specialise in back in time music of all genres.

Describing themselves as a timeless ensemble, The Heritage Band is focused on creating unforgettable musical experiences for those who crave memories of traditional Barbados through some of the best known rhythms of the region – calypso, reggae and spouge – while touching on the American soul music of the 1950s-1970s that influenced local entertainers and artists of that period.

This band is one of the best kept secrets on the entertainment scene in Barbados, but on Saturday night will provide an opportunity for fans of back in time music – and even those who are not –  to be enthralled with their exceptional musical artistry and sweet foot-stomping and titillating melodies.

The band will be in concert at Freddie’s Smoke Bar and Grill, Tichbourne, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, for a 10 pm show.

Band leader, keyboardist and visionary Terry Griffith is the driving force behind the band. His profound understanding of musical arrangements and his passion for innovation have guided the ensemble to new heights.

His keyboard skills are the heart and soul of the band’s sound, weaving intricate melodies that captivate listeners.

David Burnett, the drummer, provides the rhythmic foundation of the Heritage Band. His impeccable timing and dynamic drumming styles add depth and energy to every performance.

Gladstone Pilgrim, the bass player, brings a solid and groovy backbone to the band’s music. His rich, resonant bass lines are essential to the band’s cohesive sound. Gladstone’s expertise and ability to seamlessly blend with other instruments make him an indispensable member of the group.

Lloyd Denny, the guitarist, adds flair and finesse to the band’s repertoire. His mastery of both rhythm and lead guitar allows the band to explore a wide range of musical styles.

Eddison Griffith, the male vocalist, delivers powerful and emotive performances that resonate with audiences. His vocal prowess and stage presence are integral to the band’s identity.

The other vocalist, Tamara Boyce, also known as Queen T, brings a balance to the band’s sound. Her exceptional vocal talent and dynamic stage presentation enhance the band’s performances. (EJ)
