Barbadian forward Thierry Gale is in talks with a football club from England.
The football rumour mill was abuzz with news that Gale, 23, was on the verge of joining Sky Bet League One side Bolton Wanderers, according to unconfirmed reports emerging from Austria.
Gale, who became the most expensive Barbadian footballer in history when he signed a four-year contract with SK Rapid Wien in 2023 worth BDS $1.7 million, now finds himself at the centre of speculation following an abrupt end to his loan spell at Polish club Piast Gliwice.
The 23-year-old’s loan was initially set to run until December 31, 2025, with Piast Gliwice covering his wages in full. However, Rapid Wien terminated the agreement early, a decision made all the more curious given the Austrian club did not formally acknowledge Gale’s return, further fuelling talk of an imminent transfer.
In a statement released on Monday, July 1, via their official X account (formerly Twitter), Piast Gliwice confirmed Gale’s departure, explaining the circumstances behind the early termination.
The statement read “Due to the non-play of the number of minutes set in the loan agreement in the previous season. Rapid Vienna decided to take advantage of the option of shortening the loan of Thierry Gale free of charge. After the team returned to training on June 16, the player did not appear at the club. He also refused to perform in one of the sparring matches during the preparatory period. We also inform you that Miguel Nóbrega’s loan from Portuguese Rio Ave FC has ended.”
Gale leaves Piast Gliwice having made 11 appearances — three of them starts — and registering two goal contributions in a total of 398 minutes on the pitch. (JC)
