Thorne proud of Dujon’s campaign in St James North

Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne today sang the praises of first-time candidate, Felicia Dujon.

Dujon, third vice-president of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), is contesting the St James North by-election in her first taste of elective politics in Barbados.

Thorne said he was blown away by Dujon’s work in the constituency in just under three weeks of campaigning.

He made the comment earlier today as he and Dujon, born in St Lucia but a citizen of Barbados, visited the Gordon Greenidge Primary School in Rock Dundo, St James.

“I want to thank Felicia for setting a very high standard of debate in the campaign; a very high standard,” he stressed.

He also said Dujon should be congratulated for attempting to engage with 100 per cent of the more than 8 000 voters in St James North, in just under 21 days.

“She visited the overwhelming majority of households in this constituency in a very short time. We in the party are proud of the standard that was set,” added Thorne, who is the party’s political leader.

Flanked by Dujon, a university lecturer in Philosophy, Thorne, the MP for Christ Church South, noted that he was hopeful Dujon could find herself in Parliament because more opposing voices were needed by the DLP in the Lower House.

“Whatever is the outcome, we will feel we would have done our duty,” Thorne added about the approach to today’s by-election.

The soft-spoken Dujon said she was happy with the way things went and with her interactions with constituents in the short campaign time-frame.

“It’s now up to God and to the people,” she told the media outside Gordon Greenidge Primary this afternoon. (BA)
