The Barbados Police Service has announced heightened security measures for Grand Kadooment on Monday following an incident-free Foreday Morning Jam.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Sonia Boyce assured the public that a comprehensive security plan has been activated to provide a safe, secure and orderly environment for all participants and spectators.
Approximately 19 registered bands are expected to travel from the Helipad to the Mighty Grynner Highway, including the largest band, which is expected to have around 2 200 revellers.
“The Barbados Police Service, working in close collaboration with the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and other emergency and support agencies, will maintain a strong and visible presence along the route,” Commissioner Boyce stated.
She said the operation will include traffic diversions, high-visibility patrols, checkpoint screenings, crowd monitoring, drone and CCTV surveillance, rapid-response teams and tactical support from the BDF.
Commissioner Boyce added that particular attention will be paid to traditional trouble spots along the route, including Eagle Hall junction, Black Rock main road and Holders Land, where crowd encroachment has often presented challenges.
She urged all attendees to exercise restraint and comply with official instructions throughout the day’s activities.
“I am, therefore, appealing to every member of the public to act responsibly, obey the law and cooperate fully with police officers, soldiers, marshals, band security, event organisers and emergency personnel,” Boyce urged.
The top cop warned that disorderly conduct, fighting, unauthorised entry into bands and public drunkenness would be dealt with firmly.
She also reminded residents and business owners along the route to present their issued passes when requested, noting that security personnel have been instructed to exercise appropriate discretion to facilitate access while maintaining public safety.
