Motorists are being advised of road closures and traffic diversions in Bridgetown ahead of the Sagicor Life Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, November 1.
The Barbados Police Service said the changes will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, and remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Monday, November 2, for the main closure.
Trafalgar Street will be closed between its junctions with High Street and Rickett Street during that period.
On Sunday, November 1, Wharf Road and Bridge Street will also be closed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., or until otherwise directed by a police officer.
During the extended closure, motorists travelling along Broad Street will be required to turn left at High Street and continue onto Roebuck Street. Alternatively, after turning left at High Street, they may turn right by the Parliament Building and proceed along Palmetto Street and Rickett Street before reaching Trafalgar Street.
On Sunday, motorists travelling along Broad Street will be required to turn left at Prince William Henry Street.
The police said anyone who contravenes the traffic rules or fails to comply with an order given by a uniformed police officer may, on summary conviction, face a $500 fine or imprisonment for three months.
The restrictions do not apply to vehicles used by the Barbados Police Service, Barbados Defence Force, Barbados Fire Service or other emergency vehicles.
Police officers will be deployed to assist with traffic management. The service thanked the public for its cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
