The Barbados Police Service has announced traffic changes ahead of the grand rehearsal for the State Funeral of the late National Hero, The Right Excellent Sir Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers, which will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Several road closures, restrictions, diversions and no-parking zones will be in effect throughout the day to facilitate the rehearsal.
From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until otherwise directed by a member of TBPS, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic: Bridge Street, Lower Bay Street/Lower Fairchild Street, Lower River Road, Broad Street, Prince Alfred Street, Cheapside, Fontabelle, President Kennedy Drive, and Mighty Grynner Highway to Holborn Circle.
Additional road closures will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas: Skeenes Hill at its junction with Yorkshire Road to the Ridge Roundabout; Old Newton Road from the exit of the Cemetery to the Ridge Roundabout; The Ridge Roundabout at its junction with Ridge Road; Searles Road at its junction with Searles Quarry to the Ridge Roundabout; and the Clay Target Shooting Association entrance to the Ridge Roundabout.
Traffic restrictions and delays are expected along St Michael’s Row, Marhill Street, Trafalgar Street, Cowell Street and President Kennedy Drive from Westbury Road to Holborn Circle.
Motorists are advised to follow all traffic diversions and directions from police officers deployed to assist with traffic management.
No parking will be permitted on several roads, including Fairchild Street, St Michael’s Row, Marhill Street, Ricketts Street, Palmetto Street, High Street, Trafalgar Street, Upper and Lower Broad Street, Cowell Street, Cheapside and Fontabelle.
Anyone who contravenes the traffic rules or fails to comply with directions from a member of TBPS in uniform may face a fine of $500 or imprisonment for up to three months.
The Barbados Police Service thanked the public for its cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary traffic measures. (TBPS)
