Motorists can expect traffic changes and delays in Bridgetown today as the Barbados Youth Parade 2026 gets under way.
The parade will take place at Kensington Oval before participants march through Bridgetown to Queen’s Park. The Barbados Police Service has announced traffic measures that will remain in effect from 9 a.m. until the completion of the event.
Fontabelle Road will be closed from 10:30 a.m., from its junction with Lakes Folly and Redman Drive to its junction with President Kennedy Drive and the Mighty Grynner Highway at Holborn Circle.
Diversions will also be in effect.
Motorists travelling along Lakes Folly can continue onto Redman Drive or turn left onto Cheapside. Vehicles travelling on Cheapside towards Fontabelle will turn right onto Lakes Folly or left onto Redman Drive.
Motorists heading towards the City along the Mighty Grynner Highway will be diverted onto President Kennedy Drive, while vehicles travelling on Kensington New Road towards Fontabelle will turn right onto Fontabelle Road.
No parking will be allowed along several roads and adjoining footpaths, including Fontabelle Road, Westbury Road, President Kennedy Drive, Cheapside Road, Redman Drive, Prescod Boulevard, Pickwick Gap, University Row, the Mighty Grynner Highway and Kensington New Road.
Kensington Oval, Weymouth and the Hanschell Inniss car park have been designated for VVIP, dignitary, technical and support staff parking.
Police officers will be deployed throughout the day to assist with traffic management.
Anyone who breaches the traffic measures or fails to comply with the directions of a uniformed police officer can face a $500 fine or three months’ imprisonment.
