Trinbago Knight Riders are now the only unbeaten team in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League after crushing Jamaica Empress Women by nine wickets in a decisive clash between the competition’s last two unbeaten sides at Kensington Oval on Thursday.
Jamaica, sent in to bat, struggled against the Trinbago attack and were restricted to 100 for eight off their allotted 20 overs.
They never overcame a slow start, after labouring to 29 for two at the end of the six-over powerplay, during which Amy Hunter was run out for duck while Meg Lanning made six.
Rashada Williams top-scored with 40 off 47 balls batting at number three in the order, during an innings which featured six fours.
Chinelle Henry added 22 not out from 26 balls. Syeda Aroob Shah, who scored 12 not out, was the only other Empress player to get into double figures.
Player-of-the-Match Karishma Ramharack led a disciplined bowling effort, taking three wickets for 11 runs, while Laura Harris grabbed two for 10. There was also a wicket apiece for Marizanne Kapp and Deandra Dottin.
Chasing 101 for victory, Knight Riders were equally as impressive with the bat as they cruised to 104 for one in reply, off 11.1 overs.
Opener Yastika Bhatia stroked an unbeaten 57 off 34 balls, including six fours and three sixes. She shared in a 35-run first-wicket partnership with Laura Harris, who made 22 from 18 balls, while Dottin was left unbeaten on 22 from 15 deliveries.
Knight Riders have established themselves as the early front-runners in the competition, having previously defeated three-time defending champions Barbados Tridents, in the opening game on Saturday, September 5.
Trinidad will be back in action against Guyana Amazon Warriors on Saturday, September 12, when the Tridents will face the Empress team in the second game of a double-header at Kensington Oval.
