Tropical Storm Jerry being monitored – no watches or warnings for Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Jerry.

At this time, there are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados associated with the system.

However, marine conditions are expected to deteriorate from Thursday, with models indicating swell heights of up to three metres as the system moves closer to the region.

A Small Craft Advisory has already been issued for above-normal swell heights. Wet conditions are also likely heading into the weekend, with a possibility of flooding in some low-lying areas.

The system, which strengthened into a tropical storm over the past 12 hours, is moving west at about 24 mph. Forecasts suggest a turn toward the west-northwest in the coming days, taking the centre of Jerry north of Barbados sometime on Thursday.

Occasional showers and increased rainfall activity are expected into the weekend as the system moves near the Leeward Islands.

This information statement was issued at noon today and will be updated at 5:30 p.m. (BMS)
