Trust fund takes community outreach to Christ Church

Bringing business support directly into communities remains a key priority for the Barbados Trust Fund Limited (BTFL), as it works to strengthen small enterprises from the ground up.

Speaking on the sidelines of the WebizBajan Trade Fair at Wotton Playing Field, Christ Church, BTFL Business Development Manager Kirk Dottin said the initiative forms part of a broader push to reconnect with communities and raise awareness of the agency’s role.

“What’s happening here today (Saturday) is one of our community-based events. We would have started this initiative a couple of years back at Hoyte’s Village, and we decided that we needed to get back into the community because there are a lot of persons who are not aware of what the trust fund does,” Dottin told Barbados TODAY.

He expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout, particularly from businesses within the Christ Church constituency, noting that the event highlights the importance of meeting entrepreneurs where they are.

“This is something we’re going to be taking throughout the whole country at various times during the year,” he added.

Dottin also pointed to the collaborative effort behind the initiative, with agencies such as the National Insurance Scheme, Barbados Revenue Authority, and the Central Bank of Barbados partnering to provide guidance and support to entrepreneurs.

“We are glad to be here… building entrepreneurship from the grassroots up,” he said, explaining that development begins at the micro level. (SB)
